How To Start Riding Motorcycles in 6 Steps // Women Motorcycle Riders

Ever wondered what it's like to ride motorcycles? Learning to ride can seem scary and intense, especially for women who want to ride motorcycles.

There are so many things to learn like; motorcycle maintenance, how to ride motorcycles, which motorcycle safety course to take, how to buy a motorcycle, what type of motorcycle to buy, motorcycle insurance, what motorcycle helmet to buy, motorcycle safety gear for women - it seems really overwhelming.

It doesn't have to be, though.

I've been riding for over 3 years and in that time went from a totally clueless non-rider to certified motorcycle coach. In this video I share my 6 step framework for how to become a badass motorcycle rider.

It doesn't matter if you want to ride a Harley-Davidson, Indian, Kawasaki, Honda, Triumph, BMW, Ducati, KTM, or Suzuki - the process and framework is the same.

Here it is - my 6 step framework for how to learn to ride motorcycles:

Step 1: Commit to learning a new skill

The first step is to definitively commit to learning this new skill.

Learning to ride seems overwhelming and intimidating at times, I have totally felt all those things. Just know that riding is the easiest part - it's really the mental game of knowing you can do it that is the hardest barrier to overcome.

Step 2: Find a Mentor

Find a someone in your life who already rides motorcycles to be your mentor. Choose your mentor based on how supportive, patient and generous they are with time/knowledge.

They will shorten your learning curve significantly which leaves more time for you to enjoy riding.

 Step 3: Find Community

Women riders like to help other women riders. The motorcycle community is totally amazing and very supportive.

Find a motorcycle riding group near you that fits with your values and you'll be well on your way to making new best friends and becoming a lifelong rider.

Step 4: Learn to Ride Safely

Getting trained by professional motorcycle coaches in a motorcycle safety course is the best way to learn to ride motorcycles.

You will learn about motorcycle safety gear, motorcycle road rules, and important tips/advice on how to stay safe while riding motorcycles.

Step 5: Buy a Motorcycle

There are many brands and styles to choose from when buying a motorcycle. Visit dealerships and take demo rides on different motorcycles.

How will you ride? Commute? Trail riding? Touring? Racing? There are different motorcycle types for each use.

Only you know what will work for your purposes. Trust yourself, and you will make the right decision.

Step 6: Motorcycle Safety Gear

Motorcycle safety gear will protect your from the elements and reduce your chance of injury in a crash.

Make sure you pick up all the motorcycle safety gear essentials: helmet, jacket, pants, over ankle boots, full-fingered gloves, eye protection and earplugs.
