6 Things I’m NOT Doing In 2025 (and What I’m Doing Instead)
As the year draws to a close, I’ve been reflecting on what has worked for me and what hasn’t. This introspection has helped me identify a list of things I no longer want to do. These habits or practices have been exhausting, and I’ve wasted far too much time, energy, and even tears on them. I’m sharing this list not only to keep myself accountable but also in the hope that my alternatives might inspire you to save time, conserve energy, and improve your quality of life.
Here are the six things I’m stopping in 2025—and what I’ll be doing instead.
1. Quitting Social Media
Why I’m Done: Social media felt like an endless treadmill. I was burnt out, chasing a carrot that always seemed just out of reach. It consumed so much of my time and drained my creativity.
What I’m Doing Instead: I’ve shifted my focus to long-form content like my podcast and YouTube channel. Stepping away from platforms like Instagram, Facebook and TikTok has renewed my creativity and focus. Without the constant distraction, I’ve found more time to think, reflect, and create authentic content that resonates deeply with me and my audience.
2. Fitting Self-Care into the Cracks
Why I’m Done: I used to fit self-care into the edges of my day, often during breaks or after my son’s naps. It left me feeling drained and like an afterthought in my own life.
What I’m Doing Instead: I’ve restructured my week to prioritize activities that help me share my message and nurture myself. I’m aligning my tasks with the astrological days of the week, which has been a game-changer. No more “Mel gets the leftovers”—I’m giving myself prime time to recharge and create.
3. Using Too Many Notebooks
Why I’m Done: My office was a chaotic mix of six or more notebooks for different purposes. Great ideas got lost, and I’d often stumble upon brilliant insights months or years later, frustrated that I hadn’t acted on them sooner.
What I’m Doing Instead: I’ve consolidated everything into one notebook. It’s not about having pretty, organized notes—it’s about capturing and keeping track of my thoughts and ideas. This simple shift has been incredibly freeing and has helped me stay focused and action-oriented.
4. Entertaining Self-Doubt
Why I’m Done: For years, I’ve questioned whether I’m good enough, whether my business will succeed, or whether my efforts are even worth it. This self-doubt has been SO exhausting and draining.
What I’m Doing Instead: I’m committing to embracing myself fully—flaws and all. I’m accepting that I’m here for a reason and that my work matters. This mindset shift is about letting go of the shadows of doubt and fully stepping into my purpose.
5. Using Unnatural Body Products
Why I’m Done: For too long, I’ve used body care products with ingredient lists I couldn’t pronounce. The realization hit me: if I wouldn’t let my son bathe in it, why am I putting it on my skin?
What I’m Doing Instead: I’ve transitioned to natural skincare products. My husband made me tallow butter recently, and the results have been incredible—hydrated skin, minimized scars, glowing complexion. It’s made me question the entire beauty industry and prioritize products I can trust.
6. Creating Endless Lead Magnets In My Business
Why I’m Done: I used to believe that constantly creating new lead magnets was the key to attracting clients. But it became a hamster wheel of burnout - usually resulting in broken links and forgotten offers.
What I’m Doing Instead: I’m focusing on ONE high-value, authentic lead magnet: my business blueprint. It’s a comprehensive guide containing everything I’ve learned about starting and running a business. From my YouTube strategy to my podcast workflow to health and workout routines, it’s all in one place. This focus has reinvigorated my sense of purpose and connection to my work.
Moving Forward
2025 is about up-leveling. It’s about clarity, focus, and alignment with my purpose. I’m shifting gears and stepping into this new chapter with intention and confidence.
